Friends and loved ones, Martha Jo and I are very excited about the upcoming year. As many of you know, we resigned our positions from Surfside Presbyterian Church this past August. As we consider what ministry Christ will call us to next, we are both convinced that a large part of our ministry will include Christian counseling and discipleship. This ministry will be called Hope Christian Counseling.
Our prevailing emphasis will be counseling, teaching, and training that will exalt the Christian’s Union with Christ. We believe that the modern evangelical world has slowly shifted away from this central emphasis of the gospel and tragically replaced it with an emphasis on moralism, nationalism, legalism, and political wrangling. Our desire is to work against this tendency by exalting and glorifying Christ’s Union with his people as the central reality that brings faith, hope, love, joy, and power to the Christian life! In short, we believe that “Christ in you is the hope of glory!”
We are currently taking counseling appointments, working with area churches, and developing discipleship resources. We desire to offer these services at a low cost to individuals, and so our ministry will heavily depend on the gifts of those who feel called to financially support Hope Counseling.
Our long range plans will be to establish Hope Christian Counseling Center in the Myrtle Beach area and eventually to build a staff of Christian counselors who will minister to families and individuals in the Grand Strand community, and beyond.
